Just picked up some 290E's on Epay. Would like some ~250Hz cutoff horns to go with them. Is there any model number to look out for? Would be interested in some more "modern" axisymmetric horns if those made sense. Have some Gauss 18" woofers that should pair up nicely with the 290E's, crossed over at 300Hz. Of course will need something on the high end as well.
No rush on this one, just want to know what look out for.
Have a pdf on the 329A Horn Assembly, but have never seen one for sale.
Not exactly cheap in the first place and shipping to the US will be even more expensive, but nice modern axisymmetric horns.

But even though they're called 140 Hz, I doubt they have any real world use below 300 Hz, maybe 250 Hz.
Azura offers a similarly sized axisymmetric horn for compression drivers as well.

If the 290E is similar to 290-4G, after all they have the same diaphragm, it might not be good to cross them over at 300Hz. see link bellow for a freq response graph of a 290G w/ 329A horn.

It seems like 290 drivers are only good between 500Hz to 5000Hz, again i'm not 100% sure.
There was a pair 329A horn on ebay that ended yesterday. Winning bid $1275.
I have a pair of 290-8L that i'm going to use for my speaker project. i was going to use 329A horns, but decided not to...they are just too big for my room. Instead i ordered a pair of 400Hz tractrix horns from the ebay site Vathek posted. I heard good things about them, and price is not bad at all. they should arrive this week.
There is a guy that makes/sell wood tractrix horn in audiogon also.

311-90/60s are a lot more common than 329s. Pretty sure the 90 was the direct replacement for the 329, and it doesn't need a throat adapter either.

One more thing about those stereolab 400Hz tractrix horns. They're really good quality horns and practically resonance-free but the statement from the manufacturer that they're usable from 400Hz up is just plain wrong. As is to be expected with a tractrix-contour they literally collapse above 500Hz, so by my standards they're not really useable below at least 700Hz. That doesn't make them bad horns, that's just one of the drawbacks of a tractrix horn. If you want true 400Hz useability and tractrix contour, they're going to be huge.

Thanks for all the info. Tried to reply earlier but there seemed to be a technical hiccup. Just saw some 311-90's on epay, someone already bid $800! I'll keep looking. Actually built some midrange tractrix horns years ago, using laminated paperboard in a square crossection. Well damped. The mouth was 2' x 2' for a 120Hz cutoff. As i recall, the mouth circumference needs to be = to the wavelength at cutoff. So a 200Hz tractrix horn would be about 22" in diameter and 26" long. Well it'll still fit in the rec room. Of course I'm wasting some time wondering if I could build the horns.
